Thoughts on Libre CGMs

We’ve had some great discussions about people using Dexcom devices, but we haven’t explored as much about those with diabetes using Libre CGMs. If you’re currently using one, we’d love to hear your thoughts on the pros and cons!

I use a Libre 3 CGM sensor with the Android app. This was an upgrade from Libre 2, and a short stint with Dexcom sensors.

What questions do you have of me? I’m 59 years old. Was type 2 for over 30 years, managed with exercise, diet and Metformin. A staph infection knocked out pancreas so now type 1 for past 2 years.

I’m generally happy with the Libre 3 sensors and the app. The low alarms can be annoying if I already know that I’m going low and I’m already addressing it. This is particularly true in a business setting where the alarm cannot be muted. In these cases, my best solution has been to Force Stop the app on my phone so that it is silenced, at least temporarily. And then, once I’m out of the business context, restart the app to see where I’m at. A temporary 30 minute alarm mute option would be great, but probably disallowed by attorneys for the manufacturer concerned about their liability for low events.

Sensor application is easy enough every 14 days. Not surprised, but disappointed that they discontinued including alcohol pads in the sensor applicator package.

For context, I’m injecting Humilog (short term at meal times) and Lantus (long term, daily). Not ready to move a pump.

What else can I tell you about my experience?

Hi Michael, we really appreciate your view on the Libre 3! Why did you choose a Libre device over others like Dexcom and Medtronic?

I’ve been using the Libre for a while it’s super easy to scan and less intrusive, but I do wish the alerts were more customizable like Dexcom’s. Overall, it’s been reliable for tracking trends though!

That’s awesome! Libre really does make tracking so easy. I agree more alert options would be great! How do you usually keep your CGM secure?
