I find that December is always such a whirlwind (how is it 2025 in a few short weeks?!). Everyone (myself included) seems to be so busy, stress levels seem higher than ever, and diabetes can’t be put on the back burner, unfortunately! I’ve definitely noticed my sugars have been more volatile lately (could be due to various other factors). Even if I can’t make it to my usual exercise training, I know that walking and getting some fresh air has been helpful for me! Taking small breaks in the day is another way to ensure I don’t get lost in the business of December.
Can anyone relate? Does anyone have questions or suggestions about strategies to manage stress as we head into the holidays?
I can certainly relate, during high stress times the sugars seem to bounce a fair bit. Remind yourself this is NOT a sprint…it is a Marathon…be kind to yourself.
I follow two rules of thumb:
Hydrate (the solution to pollution is dilution)
Think first, react second.
If in trouble ASK FOR HELP
Prepare for trouble in advance… you know what can go in your glove box/your in-laws house/ your desk at work? A spare infusion set, a spare cartridge and a skin tac wipe etc all in a nice plastic bag labelled with the date) change them out every six months. I don’t keep insulin as 9 times out of 10 you can put the ‘old insulin’ back in…Not ideal but in a pinch I’ve done that several times
Totally relate, Dessi! The holidays always throw routines off stress, food, and schedule changes all seem to affect glucose levels. I find short walks, deep breaths, and not stressing over the occasional spike really help. How’s everyone else managing the holiday chaos?
